“TRAINING TODAY’S YOUTH. DEVELOPING TOMMORROW’S STARS”
Program Objective
The Junior Cannons Programs objective is to create and provide a more structured environment for playersbetween the ages of 6-8. This program is designed to give those players and parents who so desire the opportunity to become better soccer players by training in a specifically structured environment with professional coaches and alongside like minded players. The future of the game is in the young players. We have many talented youngsters in the Cannons program whose skills and athleticism for their age is impressive. However because of their age they are prohibited by the state rules to participate in the full academy program. The program goal is to bridge the gap from recreation soccer to academy soccer.
Junior Academy Training
Junior Cannons training will be structured to maximize each player’s development by focusing on individual skills rather than team skills. The program focus will be to expose these young athletes to exercise and activities that will improve their technical abilities, particularly on the ball mastery. Specifically, the training will focus on basic individual techniques for passing, trapping, ball striking, and dribbling which is the base on which all youth players are developed. It will also focus on developing important motor skills such as balance, coordination, speed and agility.
Training Sessions
Training for the Junior Cannons program will be held twice a week at the Whitlock Soccer Complex andsessions will last for one hour. There will be 10 minutes of warm up. 20 minutes of individual skill work. Ten minutes spent on balance and body coordination and 20 minutes of games. Training will be conducted by nationally licensed professional coaches and may also be supplemented by senior Cannons select players.
Games & Tournaments
Junior Cannons will compete as a team in the CCSA rec league in the U8 division. Numbers permitting we will form separate boys and girls teams, otherwise it will be a co-ed team.
Most games will be played on Sat. There may be limited travel if we are able to schedule up to two friendlies with other Jr. Academy programs. We will also compete in 2 tournaments per season. Each team will be assigned a parent coach who will cover all regular season games and tournament games.
