“TRAINING TODAY’S YOUTH. DEVELOPING TOMMORROW’S STARS”
Program Objective The Junior Cannons Programs objective is to create and provide a more structured environment for players between the ages of 6-8. This program is designed to give those players and parents who so desire the opportunity to become better soccer players by training in a specifically structured environment with professional coaches and alongside like minded players. The future of the game is in the young players. We have many talented youngsters here in the Cannons program whose skills and athleticism for their age is quite impressive. However because of their age they are prohibited by the state rules to participate in the full academy program. Our aim is to bridge that gap from recreation soccer to academy soccer. Our wish is not to replace recreational soccer but to offer another avenue of continued growth in the beautiful game.
Program Aim Junior Cannons training will be structured to maximize each player’s development by focusing on individual skills rather than team skills. On the ball mastery will be the programs major point of emphasis. We will focus on basic individual techniques for passing, trapping, ball striking, and dribbling which is the base on which all youth players are developed. We will also focus on developing important motor skills such as balance, coordination, speed and agility. The Junior Cannons program focus will be to expose these young athletes to exercise and activities that will improve their technical abilities.
Training Sessions Training for the Junior Cannons program will be held twice a week at the Whitlock Soccer Complex and sessions will last for one hour. There will be 10 minutes of warm up. 20 minutes of individual skill work. 10 minutes spent on balance and body coordination and 20 minutes of games. Training will be conducted by two or more Nationally Licensed professional coaches. It is important that we keep the player to coach ratio at a 10:1 mark so that each and every player is getting the individual attention they deserve. Therefore we will also have senior Cannons Players assisting in the sessions where needed.
Games & Tournaments Junior Cannons will compete as a team in the CCSA rec league in the U8 division. Numbers permitting we will form separate boys and girls teams. If however the numbers do not match out we will form co-ed teams. Most games will be played on Sat. There will be limited travel as we will also play two away friendlies with other Jr. Academy programs. We will also compete in 2 tournaments per season. Each team will be assigned a parent coach who will cover all regular season games and tournament games.
