The notes from the Fall Academy Meeting
SEASON END ACADEMY MEETING RECAP
The following items were discussed:¬
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Academy philosophy-this is the developmental period where we are preparing them to be able to compete in a full select soccer at the U13 level and above
¬¬¬¬¬¬ U9/U10 training is geared heavily towards technical development
¬¬¬¬¬¬ U11 year tactical play is introduced in training
¬¬¬¬¬¬ U12 year technical is still the focal point with a little more emphasis on the tactical as we get ready for U13 play
¬¬¬¬¬¬ We believe in the training course we have set with the emphasis on individual skill development at an early age as we are not building teams
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Parents should be concerned with ΔϊHow is my child developingΔω rather than how is Δϊthe team doingΔω
¬¬¬¬¬¬ We are pleased with the overall direction of the Academy as we have both raised the profile of the club and the expectations of the players
¬¬¬¬¬¬ We recognize that there are things we could have done better and we will work to improve those areas
Club Uniform Policy - U10/U9
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Home games-Blue Jerseys, Black Shorts and white socks
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Away games-White Jerseys, Blue Shorts and White socks
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Players still need to bring all uniform pieces to all games¬
U11/U12 TEAMS
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Home games-Blue Jerseys, Black Shorts and White socks
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Away games-White Jerseys, Blue Shorts and Yellow socks
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Players still need to bring all uniform pieces to all games
¬¬¬¬¬¬ for tournaments very rarely can we dictate what we wear before hand unless we know who is home and away ahead of time so bring everything
Sideline Conduct
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Yelling at kids to perform does not help them cannot process all the information being given to them
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Yelling instructions that are counter to what the coaching instructions are does not help.¬ If mom or dad is yelling and coach gives an instruction Mom or Dad will always win out.¬ Allow us to coach why you offer encouragement and enjoy the game!!
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Enjoy the game and enjoy watching your kids compete and perform this is their time
¬¬¬¬¬¬ They know when they make a mistake as coaches we let them know that mistakes are okay it is part of the development process try not to counter that by offering critique
Role of Team Managers
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Unpaid volunteer position
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Communication vehicle for the coaches
¬¬¬¬¬¬ They do not set policy, rosters or schedules
¬¬¬¬¬¬ All soccer related questions go through the coaches
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Managers are our logistical aids
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Our managers are quite simply the best we are fortunate to have all of them going above and beyond the call of duty to aid us in our efforts to have things run as smoothly as possible
Parental Concerns Brought Forward
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Not knowing who the coach is
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Coaches missing games
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Coaches not being there to warm up the kids or start the game
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Replacement coaches not knowing the kids names or their positions
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Too many Sunday games
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Coaches spread to thin
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Gap between the more advanced players getting wider
Coaches Responses
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Coaches for the spring season will be named by the end of December along with who the trainers will be
¬¬¬¬¬¬ There was one instance where a coach misread the schedule which caused him to miss the game and another instance where a coach came late because he was lost.¬ We apologize for those two incidents and will work to ensure that if a situation arises like that we have contingency plans in placeΔΆΔΆ..IE another coach available or a team Dad who is licensed and can step in a pinch
¬¬¬¬¬¬ For warm-up prior to games we will empower either another licensed coach or team Dad how is good with the kids who has the ability to warm up the kids and get them ready to play until the coach arrives
¬¬¬¬¬¬ If we have to have another coach step in to cover a game and he is not familiar with the kids names we will have either the team manager or a team Dad help out on the sideline for that day.¬ However not in a coaching role.
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Unfortunately games or tournaments on a Sunday are something that we cannot change.¬ We however will respect any person(s) who make the decision in the best interest of their family not to participate on those occasions that we play on Sundays.
¬¬¬¬¬¬ We will be re-evaluate the coaching coverage over the next few weeks and come up with a plan of action going forward
¬¬¬¬¬¬ We actually see that the gap is closing between the more skilled players and we attribute that to the fact that our training and our trainers are doing a great job with all the kids and not just a select few
Conclusion
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Future is bright
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Our academy is being recognized as the next up and coming academy not only on the Southside but also in the greater Atlanta Area.
¬¬¬¬¬¬ Clubs are calling to play us because they recognize that we are putting quality players out
¬¬¬¬¬¬ We are not where we want to be but we firmly believe we are on the right path
